Rosalbo Zacchei

Rosalbo was born in Sinalunga, Siena, Italy in June 1954.

If you have to face the harsh reality of life from a very young age because you are the child of a separated couple, the best shelter is your imagination and creativity.

His family situation brought about many moves and he often had to change schools, from state schools to the hotel and catering high school diploma, up to his classical studies in a seminary. A place he has never forgotten, where students in the refectory were surrounded by Pre-Renaissance frescoes of the old Sienese school.

Large paintings in beautiful Tuscan churches, cathedrals, harmony, reflections, aesthetic sense: all converged in the great basin of artistic passion.

Due to forced choices, he had to forgo his passion for painting, adapting himself to several different jobs from clerical work, considered repetitive and boring, to a longer, heavier but more rewarding time spent working as a building restorer. Here a new world opened up with a story behind it, which generated imagination, improvisation, sense of art; you could shape, touch, model earth, clay and cement.

Over the years (supported and encouraged by his wife Laura Graham, an artist herself, a former Shakespearean actress, now a writer), Rosalbo reconnected with his passion for painting, illustrating children’s books with cats as main characters.

He quietly goes on between a rainbow of colours and the soft touches of a brush.
